Demand for Repeal of Drug Pricing Policy Recommendation Report through Peaceful Silent Protest

Silent Protests Held in Four Cities Demanding Repeal of Drug Pricing Policy Recommendation Report

Kathmandu – Silent protest programs were held today at four different locations across the country, demanding the repeal of the recently published “Drug Pricing Policy Recommendation Committee Report – 2082”.

According to the decision of the Pharmaceuticals, Health Services, and Medical Supplies Stakeholders Committee — which includes the Nepal Chemists and Druggists Association (NCDA) and 10 other concerned organizations — peaceful protests took place in front of the Department of Drug Administration (DDA) in Kathmandu, as well as its branch offices in Biratnagar, Birgunj, and Nepalgunj. These protests witnessed active participation from professionals, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

Participants, with black bands tied over their mouths, observed a silent sit-in to express their discontent. They strongly criticized the report, stating that it is not business-friendly, ignores practical realities, and could have serious implications on the medicine supply chain. They called for the immediate annulment of the report.

The coordinators of the protest emphasized that instead of formulating policies that disrupt the pharmaceutical, healthcare, and medical supply system, the government should engage in thorough consultation with stakeholders to develop long-term and sustainable solutions.

Organizers confirmed that the silent protest was conducted in a peaceful and dignified manner, with no untoward incidents reported.
